WHO CAN APPLY
To be eligible for the Shepard Apartments, the applicant must be:
- 18 years or older.
- Psychiatrically disabled, as defined by HUD.
- Within very low-income eligibility limits established by HUD.
- Ready to live in a supported housing program and able to participate in the development of a supportive service plan.
- Applicants will not be required to receive supportive services, but income eligibility requirements must be met.
As apartments become available, preference will be given to applicants who are:
- Current clients of the Alder Street Residence or William Ware Residence programs who are ready to advance to this level of independent living.
- Involuntarily displaced.
- Occupying substandard housing.
- Paying in excess of 50 percent of income for rent.
- Homeless or staying with friends or relatives.
- Living in more restrictive setting than necessary.
Applicants who meet the eligibility criteria will be further screened by a Screening Committee. Each prospective client fills out additional forms and gives permission for staff to contact past and present service providers and others who know the applicant. A criminal history check is required. Evidence of past criminal activity does not automatically eliminate the applicant from the waiting list.
Staff from Halfway House Services, Laurel Hill Center, and Lane County Mental Health Services will interview and screen applicants after all information is received. Applicants are responsible for providing changes to their address and contact information to the Screening Committee during the selection process.
